Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue

10 million people suffer with the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

Perhaps you have been told by a well-meaning but uniformed doctor that you will "just have to learn to live with it." or  "Drugs like antidepressants are the only option"   Well guess what... you DO have options.  The good news is, your symptoms can be diminished or reduced by using natural, nutritional products and approaches that address these symptoms without the nasty side effects, complications and risks as prescriptions drugs.  And with a change in your lifestyle to a more natural approach you can start experience real health and not just a masking of symptoms like with drugs.

Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue are most of the time hand in hand.  It is a condition that can be a puzzle to solve and has many reasons and  causes that can be different for each person.  The main thing is to get to the root cause and there ARE remedies that work for a majority of people...the trick is to find what exactly works best for you at what time, because some have more severe cases than others and certain things help at different points of this illness!

Here are the basic things I recommend to everyone to test for and to try at least initially to see if things get better and remember, this is not an overnight miracle pill type remedy.  This is lifestyle changes and depending on the severity of your condition it may be weeks to a couple months to see really good improvement and more to get really healthy.  I was so sick that it was hard to even walk because it was so painful and I was so stiff.  I spent most days in bed but I kept at my diet changes, nutrition protocal, symptom specific remedies when needed, and most importantly strengthening my immune system, addressing digestion/gut issues and detoxifying and now I live pain free and healthy today!

Diet Additions and Restrictions

One of the first things I recommend is evaluate your diet.  You probably have some food intolerance or allergies and you can do an elimination allergy test diet and focus on trying to eliminate gluten and possibly diary from your diet.  You may have more food allergies than that but these two are the two biggest culprits.  It can be challenging and I recommend to have tests done before overhauling your diet.  Get an ELISA food sensitivity test done and a celiac test done.  No fun I know, but it can be quicker, easier and put your mind at ease better than trying to stick to the gluten free diet for months to see if you improve.  You can learn more about gluten and diary free diets and the test you should have ordered HERE.

Artificial Sweetners, preservatives and MSG can all cause and aggrevate fibromyalgia symptoms.  Aspartame (nutrasweet) and MSG are neurotoxins and damage parts of the brain.  Aspartame also produces formeldehyde in the body adding to your toxin load which you are already having trouble with.  Sucralose (Splenda) is also very aggrevating since it is a chlorinated sugar molecule (similar to the pesticide DDT).  It can add to the poor digestion issues that contribute to fibromyalgia as well as lower immune function.

Unfortunetly getting rid of or at least limiting sugar intake is another thing that is vital since sugar depresses the immune system which is already overtaxed in fibromyalgia.  Some natural sweetening alternatives would be Stevia, xylitol, date sugar, and LoHanGuo.

The mainstay of your diet of course should be a healthy wholefoods diet rich in vegetables and other wholefoods.  Adding "superfoods" and greens to your diet can be extremely beneficial for fibromyalgia since it increases body alkalinity (acidosis is generally associated with fibromyalgia), helps detoxification, gives much needed nutrients and trace minerals and increases blood oxygenation.  Learn more Here

Test Your Thyroid

Yes you may even have had your doctor do this already but you may need to retest with a more sensative or different test.  To test at home, take your temperature first thing in the morning before getting out of bed every morning for a week.  If your temperature is consistantly low then you probably have thyroid issues despite what the doctors test results are.  Thyroid issues can resolve as your body heals in other ways but you do want to address it naturally and if that doesnt work, you may need to take some synthroid for a while to help you at first.

To address it naturally, you can supplement with Kelp or straight iodine supplement, add coconut/coconut oil to your daily diet since it has thyroid supporting and stimilating effects and reduce/eliminate all forms of soy food (which can inhibit thyroid function) in your diet.  Do this for a few weeks and then test your temperature for a week again.  You should see an improvement in your temperature.

Chemical Sensitivities

Most people with these conditions will suffer multiple chemical sensitivities.  You may notice you get headaches or feel worse when you are indoors around a running dishwaher or cleaning your bathroom or around a person with a strong perfume, or an airfreshner in someones home.  Or maybe you havent noticed the different but you are affected by it irregardless.  Everyone (even those with out fibromyalgia) should clean out their home of all the chemical laden toxic products you own.  This is one of the leading causes of a lot of ailments today and is especially important for those with fibromyalgia since we already have physical symptoms caused or aggrevated by the toxin load it puts on our bodies and liver.

Chiropractic Treatment and Massage Therapy

You should visit a chiropractor to have your spine and neck evaluted.  Your spine is the hub of nerve pathways for your whole body and a subluxation can cause all sorts of dysfunction in the body.  This is especially true if you developed fibromyalgia after a trauma or injury of some sort.  You also might have been born with a spinal alignment issue.  A spinal cord compression is one of the main spinal issues that contribute to fibromyalgia. Spinal cord compression occurs when something presses down with sufficient force on the nerves within the spinal cord so that they lose their ability to function properly.

Massage therapy is also good for easing muscle pain associated with fibromyalgia.  While it is not a cure, it sure helps the pain when you are working through the puzzle of treatment.  Accupressure point therapy is very beneficial during the massage.

Exercise!!!  I know you dont want to but here are some good easy options!

Yes this can be the last thing you want to do but a daily move is good for your stiffness and soreness.  Walking is of course always good and a good rebounder is a great option because it is is low impact and actually "massages" your muscles as you use it.  Just be sure to get a real rebounder and not one of those hard mini trampolines.  Get a real one and do light step in place while watching tv for 15-30 minutes a day.  Even if you can only manage 5-10 min a day, it is still beneficial to do what you can.
Supplements to Help Address Things that Contribute to Your Condition.  Below are some of the best supplements that directly address issues of Fibromyalgia.

Sleep Problems

People with fibromyalgia have issues with sleep.  They may be asleep all night but your body has a hard time getting into the deep stages of REM sleep where your body heals and so many aspects of your health are affected.

You need to help your body get this deep stage sleep it needs.  Without this it is almost impossible for the body to start the healing process. Deep, therapeutic sleep is where serotonin is produced and your body heals. Serotonin is essential for Natural Killer cell function. This is an important part of your immune system that governs your health. You can't have good health without good Natural Killer cell function.

Vitamin B-6, and 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) support better sleep and the direct production of serotonin for better Natural Killer cell function.

And Melatonin and Valerian an hour before bedtime can help you initially establish a better night sleep.

It may take a few days or even weeks for you to get to the point where you are experiencing a full night of deep, restful sleep. Dr. Cynthia Olson - "The only time your body heals is when you are in deep sleep. A study concerning sleep problems was recently conducted on a group of normal, healthy people. The test included sleep patterns of Fibromyalgia sufferers. After three days they all started showing symptoms of Fibromyalgia."

Immune System Support and Modulation

One of the most important things you can do for your fibromyalgia is address the immune dysfunction that accompanies it.

Chronic infection and immune system overload and dysfunction are associated with low Natural Killer (NK) cell function. This low NK function is one of the constants in Fibromyalgia sufferers. One of the most significant developments in increasing Natural Killer cell function in the immune system is Transfer Factors. Its effectiveness has been well documented.

And because most Fibromyalgia suffers will also suffer an intolerance or allergic type condition with food or other components you need a product that can help modulate the immune system so your immune system starts to function properly and respond to only what it should.  Transfer Factor is the only component known to do this.

Transfer Factor   --This is one supplement (along with enzymes and probiotics) I believe ALL fibromyalgia sufferers should take.  It was the "magic bullet" for me that made everything else I was doing finally become really effective and started experience good health

Mineral Deficiency

The one thing that all Fibromyalgia sufferers have in common is a low intracellular magnesium level. A normal serum blood test doesn't measure this. It takes a special test to determine the level within the cells themselves. If this test is run, the magnesium will always be low. It is important to take an oral supplement with Magnesium to address this deficiency since magnesium is essential in every energy and repair function.  (remember too that any supplements you take are not absorbed well unless you address gut issues first)   In addition to the oral supplement, you can also use a topical Magnesium Gel and Soak in Magnesium Crystal Salts to ease your muscle pains and help detoxify your body.  Your body does absorb the magnesium right into the muscles this way and of course it is a way to pamper yourself a little.

Fatigue
Malic acid is an important form of magnesium to be taken and an essential ingredient needed to produce the energy cycle for ATP. ATP is the energy source to move and think. This energy cycle is another vital area that must be restored in order to overcome the fatigue that accompanies the Fibromyalgia syndrome.

Pain

The pain, soreness, and inflammation are other areas that must be addressed with supplements that help your body detoxify and rebuild to naturally rid yourself of these aches and pains and strengthen your body.

MSM (methyl sulfonyl methane), a source of dietary sulfur, has been used successfully to help these problems. It’s a foundational building block and found in every cell in the body, and is structurally and functionally important to 150 compounds, including hormones, enzymes, antibodies and antioxidants.  MSM maintains cell membrane flexibility and permeability, promoting an efficient exchange of nutrients and waste products esuring good detoxification and high nutrient content getting to each cell. It ensures connective tissue health and the formation of collagen, provides the body with raw materials needed to create new cells, to repair and replace damaged tissues and organs and figures into energy production.  It is very beneficial for almost any aspect in the body!

N-acetyl cysteine is another ingredient that also helps with detoxification and muscle wasting and pain. Joint stress, which is common in Fibromyalgia, can result from the muscles compressing the joints. Glucosamine and bovine cartilage help keep the joints moving freely.

Cell Damage =The Need For Antioxidants

Chronic illness like Fibromyalgia syndrome produces an excess of free radical cells that damage healthy cells. Destroying damaged cells is one of the main functions of the Natural Killer cells in the immune system. Clearing out these cells puts an increased load on an already overloaded immune system.  Transfer Factor along with antioxidants like Pine Bark Extract and Grape Seed Extra is important to help combat cell damage.  Combine that with Alkaline Anti-Oxidant Water that gives you anti-oxidants, helps your body absorb nutrients better and helps detoxify your body and you have the greatest benefit.

Rebuilding and addressing Nutritional Gaps in Diet

Repairing and rebuilding the body suffering from Fibromyalgia requires extra nutrients. Your food alone is not enough. The vitamin/mineral complex in a quality supplement are necessary to accomplish this rebuilding phase.  And Again remember, your gut/digestion issues must be addressee to ensure you are absorbing all the nutrients you take in.
Digestive Aids

There is a high incidence of digestive disorders associated with Fibromyalgia and one of the most important areas to address.  80% of your immune health comes from your intestinal wall so it is vital that you address this area. These digestive disorders can include Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS), Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), and Disruption of Intestinal Flora.  You can take all the supplements in the worlds and eat the healthiest food, but if you are not digesting and absorbing them properly, they do No good!  Enzymes to break food down properly and probiotics to establish and maintain a proper bowel environment is vital to your immune and whole body health!
Digestive Enzymes and Probiotics with EnzyGuard-D has proven to be effective in repairing the digestive tract and restoring the proper balance of intestinal flora in people with Fibromyalgia. Along with Transfer Factor, this could be one of the most important factors in reversing Fibromyalgia, and restoring optimum health.
